Qualification for the healthcare profession of audio-prosthetist

The undergraduate degree programme in Audioprothesic techniques qualifies to exercise the health profession of Hearing Aid Technician, who is responsible for the “supply, fitting and control of prosthetic devices for the prevention and correction of hearing deficits”.

The training course aims to provide the theoretical and scientific foundations for an understanding of alterations to the auditory system and communication, the technical aspects of all hearing aids, their development up to the currently available systems and their indications and applications in the treatment of hearing loss and hearing disorders. Besides conventional prostheses in their different and complex types, implantable prosthetic systems will also be considered, for which the Hearing Care Professional may be involved in the supply, control and technical assistance procedures.

Particular attention will be paid to prosthetic applications in particular categories of patients (paediatric age, senescence, “fragile” patients) and to aspects of advanced technology in prosthetic applications. The training also includes the acquisition of appropriate knowledge of the psychological and social aspects of deafness, as well as the skills necessary for interdisciplinary collaboration and the organisation and management of one’s own professional activity.

A large and increasing amount of space during the undergraduate degree programmeis devoted to internship activities in clinical and audioprosthetic environments, an indispensable training tool for the exercise of the health professions.
